Meet Our Team
Dr Nichola O’Reilly
I graduated from University of Queensland in 1994 and came straight to a 40 + degree summer in Townsville. Originally, I only headed north for 1 year; now 21 years on, I haven't left.
In 2014, I was enticed to be the Practice Principal at Belgian Gardens Medical Centre, alongside Dr Fleming and some of the staff from Castletown Family Practice.
I married in 1995 and have had 3 beautiful children, who have fortunately, grown much taller than me.
I love the diversity of General Practice as no day is ever going to be the same and you never know what challenge you will be presented with next.
Dr Fiona Fleming
I arrived in Queensland in 1997 after completing my medical training in Trinity College, Dublin, and my General Practitioner training with the North East training scheme in Ireland.
I have worked in Far North Queensland and country Victoria, before settling in Townsville in 2002.
My Husband and I have 3 amazing daughters who keep us very busy.
I love General Practice. The fact that we treat everyone in the family, the good old cradle to the grave medicine, and the privilege it is to care for people.
I hope to continue here at BGMC, with our wonderful team, for many years to come.
Dr Michelle Vollmerhause
I am born and bred in North Queensalnd and completed all my schooling in Ingham. I moved to Brisbane in the 1990's and undertook my undergraduate degree in Applied Science Optometry before embarking on further studies to undertake the Graduate Medical Course at the University of Queensland. Completing my final clinical years in Townsville, I was awarded a MBBS in 2002.
I have completed the majority of my General Practice specialty training in Townsville, including rural service in Maryborough. In 2007, I attained my Fellowship from the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. I then settled into practice in Townsville over the last 13 years.
With a special interest in women's health, I also worked part time at Family Planning Townsville where she developed further skills in contraception services including Mirena and Implanon insertion and removal.
I enjoy all aspects of General Practice with a special interest in women's and children's health, Mirena Insertion and skin cancer treatment.
As an examiner of the RACGP, I have a special interest in continuing professional development including training General Practice Specialist Registrars and working for JCU in the General Medical Training program for general practice.
I am married and have two school aged daughters.
Dr Martin Carr
I graduated from Monash University, Melbourne in 1989, becoming FRACGP in 1998. I have worked in a diverse range of General Practices in Melbourne, Devonport, Perth and most recently Airlie beach for the last 9 years.
My wife and I have 3 school aged children, all excited by the move to Townsville and the opportunities it will bring.
I have a broad range of experience in preventative health and chronic disease management in all age groups and both genders.
It is expected that I will continue to perform Aviation medicals for the Civil Aviation Safety Authority as I have for over 10 years.
I look forward to helping manage the health needs of you and your family at Belgian Gardens Medical Centre from mid December 2016
Dr Sonia Gautam
After graduation and post-graduation in ENT in India, I moved to Australia in 2007 with my Husband. We have two lovely school aged boys.
In working at the Royal Hobart Hospital and Townsville Hospital for 4 years, I learned alot about the Australian health system. At this time, I decided to specialise in General Practice and I have now recently obtained Fellowship in General Practice with the RACGP.
Having special interest in Women's Health, I also trained at TTH Obstretrics and Gynaecology and obtained a Diploma in Women's Health from the RANZCOG. I am trained in antenatal care, Mirena and Implanon Insertion & Removals, managing contraception, menopause and other gynaecological issues.
My other area's of interest are Skin (I obtained a Professional Skin Cancer Certificate) and management of chronic diseases.
Additionally, I speak three languages proficiently - English, Hindi and Puinjabi.
I have been working at BGMC since January 2017 and plan to continue looking after my wonderful patients here.
